Case Study: World Snooker Lighting for Star Snooker Academy

We were approached by Steelers Sports bar in Sheffield to reduce their energy consumption whilst still meeting World Snooker lighting levels. This one was special to us, because Sheffield is the home of snooker.

Steelers Sports Bar is also the UK base of current World Snooker number 8 Ding Junhui, so it was important that our lighting design and installation was world class, just like Ding.

We designed a custom luminaire suitable for both snooker and pool tables. The fixture is designed to emulate the shadows and light spotting on the balls of traditional light sources. Players use these as reference points on the balls when playing.

The new installations met the World Snooker standards, which was exactly what our customer required to be eligible. They wanted to be able to host World Snooker qualifying events, and the finished result means they can. To make the tables pop, we added RGB LED strip light. For easy lighting sovereignty, all tables are synced back to a central controller.

We found the blue contacted well with the iconic green felt. The RGB tape gives the venue the flexibility to change to any colour, depending on mood or event. Snooker has never been more instagramable!

We were successful in achieving a 66% energy reduction over existing products, saving our customer money every year.
